I'm new here. I just bought a 2000 GW 1500 SE. I have two very weird problems:
!- The air compressor system does not work. When I pulled the switch panel out, I found that there is NO connecting cable 6P-WHT plug is missing! Any ideas? I have checked the compressor, air valves, dryer, filter, fuses, relays and everything is good, but without a connecting cable-well, it's never going to work!

2- I cannot mount the license plate as the holes (only two) are in the wrong place vertically and not wide enough horizontally. I removed the back plate and the tabs are in the wrong place. I also have a 1994 GW 1500 I and the license plate holes are correct. Can anybody help? Thanks

I'm only guessing but you may be missing the bracket that the tag mounts to, it moves the tag to the proper place on the center piece

air compressor/ license plate bracket

Thanks for the information. My 1994 1500 does not have this bracket and instead has four threaded holes that line up exactly with the license plate.

I removed the entire right side of the front fairing and FOUND the air compressor plug and cable jammed under the bottom air vent, just above the spark plugs. I can tell that it's been there a LONG time!

Just figured I would throw this in here:
Are you aware that the bike has to be stopped for the air compressor to function? If using it to raise the air pressure in the rear suspension, the bike can be running, but the speedometer must be at zero. If using the compressor's output hose in the right saddlebag, the bike's ignition switch must be turned to PARK.

^^. What he said. There were a couple times I wanted to make an adjustment and had to slap my head/helmet because I was not stopped.
Also, it is best to adjust rear shock air pressure while on the center stand. The system is designed for max pressure with no weight on the rear. To do it on the ground means you can vary widely how close you really are to the factory max recommended pressure, and that little pump has to 'push' up the weight.

You can adjust the pressure on the center stand. Then take the bike off the stand, observe the reading again. Make a mental note of it, that way you can adjust it on the ground also. I have Progressive 416's on my 1500 and I have checked it out several times. Works fairly well after you get used to it. By the way, I also found out I can have the engine running and bike in neutral on side stand and the compressor will pump up a tire or what ever with the remote hose.
