I just changed the oil in my gl1100. It had 3000 miles on the oil change. When I pulled the filter it had collapsed on the sides. Never had this before. Oil still looked fine. Very clean for 3000 miles. I use Fram filters. Easy to find where I am located. Should I change brands? Also anyone else seeing this happen?

Not a spin on. It still has the stock canister type. The filter is not broken or tearing loose. It is just collapsed on the sides . All the pleats in the filter are bent and pulled toward the center.

Sounds to me like it was somehow overtorqued. I can't imagine how though with the spring and the housing design.

Do you warm the oil up, before going to higher rpm?
That higher flow is harder to push thru the pleats, when the oil is cold thick. That's what causes most element failures, even with a by-pass valve, because most of them bypassers don't like high flow, thick oil.
