2004 GL1800

Clutch works fine. When engine not running, can easily shift. Engine starts fine in N, but when either up or down shifting the engine dies - seems the tranny is still partial engaged? Just before storing it, did notice that when stopping the tranny did not fully disengage and needed more brake and up the idle to keep it running. Oil level is fine.

Was told it meant the oil needed changing, but find that hard to believe! Trying to find a place to get an oil change on a long trip would be a hassle - not to mention the safety factor!

Anyone have any thoughts or tips?

Thanks in advance.

Yep it has got to be the oil.....has to be......I love it!! I get so tickled at all the oil stories sure do!!

Do you have a manual to show you how to adjust the clutch? I am not 100 percent sure but it does not sound too serious, creeping or failure to disengage sounds like the clutch adjustment.

Try bleeding the clutch system ....could have air in it
Fluid could simply be low
Evidently not leaking as you had not said so
If bike sat for awhile actuator piston could be stuck

More serious can be warped and or slipping clutch plates, for what ever reason, mileage, oil additives......but sounds like clutch adjustment .

That is exactly what I would check as well ,sounds to me like a safety switch is stuck on :)

He did say it wasn't fully disengaging at the end of last year.More brake and higher idle at stops.Sounds like the clutch needs bleeding to me.
