Since putting it back together last night after my dj gig (2am), I think I could move the fairing 4" faster than pulling the carbs - ok probably not :) I spent more time on my mirrors than anything else. The mounts were toast and I had to fabricate-rig new ones. I was up and running by 4am and took her for a run. She ran so much better. I can cruise all day at 80 with no problems. Even took the mrs for breakfast and a 180 mile run in the mountains.

alot of good info here, I have an 84 aspencade that is still giving me some of the same problems. The carbs were rebuilt and then taken off again to recheck them also 4 tanks with seafoam new plugs new fuel filter new K&N filter and still cant get her over 68 mph what else should I be looking for? I get about 150 miles to a tank

Dead Lakes Cruiser, first I would start a new thread. Trying to troubleshoot an issue on top of another problem can get things confused. If you rebuilt and cleaned the carbs seafoam isn't going to do a thing for you. Have you done a compression check? Are you getting gas in the oil? What do the plugs look like?

I replaced my carb cap screws with hex screws. They rust though so I treated them with a thin coat of POR. Wish I could find stainless hex screws locally.

I told you guys, you have to attack the pilot jets also, these are covered by an aluminum cap that has to be drilled and then pryed out. got it!
