Pumping motion will push out 99% of the oil. Let bike sit for30 mins. or so with plugs out.Pumping motion will blow oil everywhere keep some rags around bottom of legs. I also use air compressor with regulated low pressure to help push oil out. As said above LOW PRESSURE. Your not a pain people that don't ask questions about what they don't know are a pain. Hope this is some help to you.

First off, you are not being a pain. Help is what this forum is about.

As with any oil change you can't get all the old stuff out. Simply let it drain until it stops.

As far as forcing oil through an air inlet goes...well you have to pull those caps off anyway to put the new springs in. So the point is mute.

You might want to run a pint of mild solvent through thetubes to help clean out the gunk.

Thanks guys, this is new territory for me. I really do appreciate this forum, it is the best one I have come across.

You said mid solvent, can you give me an example of what you are talking about

Somebody else might be able to direct you better for that. Last time I did the forks on mine I think I used gasoline. But that was with the forks removed and completely disassembled.

Which leads me to a question for you...

Are the 416s you referred to a fork spring or a rear shock?

I will have to take the fork caps off to add the oil, I only have 1 air inlet on my front forks not 2

GOD Bless,

yes and it is a pita to get the caps back on.... I take a 2x4 drill a hole the size of the extension slide the extentions through and have a helper use the 2x4 to put downward pressure to seat the threads while I turn the ratchet

must be a small 2x4, there is not much room there

You're kidding, right ??

A shotgun cleaning rod and a rag on it works good to clean out gunk with mineral spirits. Pushing the caps down is not the issue... it's making sure you don't cross the threads. Use steady deliberate pressure and turn the cap backwards a 1/2 a trun or so till you feel the threads "click together and carefully start turning the cap in. if there is resistance, stop and make assessment that you are not cross threaded. The half turn back wards trick works well on lots of things you don't want to cross thread.
